This activity would take place off campus at Basel Ruder Club. It would be supervised by qualified coach(es) and would have a maximum of 8 or 16 attendees per block.
Social distancing rules for Switzerland allow rowing in doubles and fours now and from 6th June in 8s.
Learning Outcomes:
Students would learn
fundamentals of boat management on and off the water
balance, rowing forwards and backwards, turning the boat, capsize drill.
If students develop an interest in the sport, then membership of the club could be an option this introduces them to.

This sessions will allow students to develop/improve their basic volleyball skills and technique: dig, set, spike, serve. They will also develop an understanding of positions on the court and rotation, as well as basic strategies. Each session will end with a volleyball game.

The course consists of fun and engaging language games that will aim to strengthen overall understanding and expression of language. These games will target vocabulary, memory, listening skills, word-retrieval, among other language skills. The skills will be practiced in a fun and playful way to increase attention, social interaction, and confidence.
Learning Outcomes:
Students will be able to identify and use strategies that will improve their vocabulary skills and ability to store and retrieve new words, make associations between words, and use new vocabulary words appropriately.
Students will demonstrate improved listening and memory skills by learning strategies that improves their attention and ability to follow complex directions during a variety of language enriching games.
Students will be able to improve their abilities to express themselves by using description and narrative games to expand their language and encourage creative story-telling.

Day 1: Review of the Writer's Workshop “writing cycle”, setting up our “Writer’s Notebook”, and generating initial ideas.
Day 2-6: Introducing a different genre/mode each day so students can experience multiple types of writing (both fiction and nonfiction) with exemplars and guidance.
Day 7-10: Going through the writing cycle with ONE piece started in Week One from draft to final version! Students will also choose how best to "showcase" their work and will publish their final piece (probably in a Google Site "Library" and/or in Book Creator with a read-aloud "audio book" inside!)

Revisit the Writer's Workshop "writing cycle" and use it to take an idea from its first draft to a final published version.

In this 10 lesson project based learning activity, students will discover the wide world of the olympic games, each of the sports, famous athletes, and much more. Students will research and create their own projects in order to obtain deeper understanding of the Olympic Games and how it unites the international community.

In this difficult time, many incredible institutions have opened their virtual doors for free for learning. We will be taking advantage of their generosity to learn about topics such as history, art, nature, space, and culture through virtual field trips. The students will be able to explore and learn about the world around them without leaving their home!

We will begin with a short introduction on these vibrant art styles of the late 19th and early 20th century. The students will learn to experiment with a variety of acrylic painting techniques and apply their skills while painting on a small canvas. Then before the students embark on their project, they will have the chance to choose one of the offered art styles and create a design inspired by their own original photos.
Note: The students will be expected to take or gather at least 5 photos of landscapes and people before the course begins.

During this course, students use their German skills in a fun and creative way to write their own comic book stories. Students will identify the elements of a good comic strip through reading some examples in German. They will collaborate on ideas with their peers online. They will plan their own stories and use a digital programme such as Book Creator, Storyboard That, Make Beliefs Comix to make their own stories. The emphasis will be on having fun learning.

Students will learn how to use natural ingredients to make natural skincare products. There's so many chemicals in our beauty products these days that we need to think about how we can avoid these as well as care for our environment with less plastic waste.

Together we will create dishes that do not require an oven! You will need to be safe using a knife and cooking in a pan and you will need to pre-buy ingredients. All of the recipes will be vegetarian, and some are vegan.
Allergies: Many (but not all) of the recipes include almonds and walnuts. If you are allergic to these you can swap them for other types of nut (e.g. hazelnut) but if you have a nut allergy to all nuts this course will not be suitable for you.

Students will learn how to make healthy and nutritionally balanced breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Cooking from scratch is fun and healthy and it allows you to control what you put into your body! Students will need access to a kitchen, cooking utensils and ingredients.

This will be a basic French cooking class. Students will need the basic skills of being able to measure ingredients and use a knife. We will cook 5 classic French recipes that are not overly complicated and do not require a lot of ingredients.
