A Community School is a comprehensive strategy for organizing the resources of the community around student success. At IS 349, our Community School approach is shaped and driven by the unique needs of our school’s student population and broader community in Bushwick. Our lead CBO, the Center for Supportive Schools, has brought in programs ranging from the Salvadori Center "Bridges" classes to Peer Group Connection (PGC).

Goals
- Academic Enrichment Programs: All students at IS 349 will become problem solvers through innovative, hands-on, STEM experiential learning.
- Mental Health Services and other Social-Emotional Supports: IS 349 will create a safe, supportive environment for ALL students through building a school culture that (1) empowers youth, and (2) meets every child’s social-emotional needs through targeted mental health services and mentoring programs.
- Family and Community Engagement and Capacity Building: IS 349 will become a haven that opens its doors to families who want to be actively involved in their children’s education, gain access to critical community-based resources/services, and participate in leadership opportunities at the school.
- High School, College and Career Readiness: IS 349 will support its students in planning for their futures in the long-term, focusing on educational opportunities and career outcomes.
