I.S. 223 School Dress Code
Students must come to school dressed appropriately. The following guidelines have been established:
Students are prohibited from wearing clothing that does not provide full coverage of their body. Some helpful recommendations include:
Refrain from halter, low-cut, tank or mesh tops that do not cover the torso area at all times.
Do not wear pants that are worn so low as to expose undergarments.
Shorts and skirts must be of a reasonable length.
Refrain from wearing clothing with holes or cuts made into them, including jeans with holes above the knee.
Pajamas are not permitted except on designated School Spirit Days.
Students may not wear clothing which contains language (including slurs), images, or references which are prohibited across NYC DOE schools:
Anything that discriminates on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, religious practices, ethnicity, national origin, citizenship/immigration status, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, disability, or weight;
Any profanity, obscenity, nudity, or sexual acts;
Any threats of violence, injury or harm, or gang affiliation.
Students may not wear hats, caps, kerchiefs, bandannas, scarves or other headgear in school unless the headwear is worn for religious observance or is disability-related attire.
For safety reasons, students may not wear flip-flops, slippers, slides, or any footwear that may be hazardous in a large group atmosphere (shoes must have a back; Crocs must be in sport mode).
This policy is put in place to assist students in achieving academic success during their time at Montauk I.S. 223.
Thank you for your cooperation and support.
