AAH, or the Academy of Arts and Humanities, is one out of 3 academies at IS 187. The humanities consist of those branches of knowledge, such as language, literature, history, philosophy, visual, performing arts, social sciences, technology, communication and cultural studies that are concerned with human thought and culture. They provide a compelling focus for our academy. Creative activities in all classes are used to increase student motivation and enhance their learning, tapping the artistic natures of our students.
While our main focus is the arts and humanities, we have excellent math and science departments as well. Our students will be well prepared in all subjects and skills for a successful transition to high school.
Students who enjoy writing, reading, languages, drama, drawing and painting, or other creative activities will benefit from the learning environment at the Academy for the Arts and Humanities.

Our visual arts curriculum provides a uniquely intense and comprehensive sequence of studio courses.
Our theater curriculum provides students with opportunities to practice and develop Oracy skills. These skills will assist our students in becoming articulate members of any profession. They also learn about different types and elements of theatre, like tableaus and adaptations.
In chorus and band, students will have the opportunity to perform in school-wide concerts.
Boston
In Boston, AAH students visit art museums such as the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum to gain a greater understanding of art. Students also walk along the Freedom Trail, go to Dave & Buster's, and more.
