Summer is the Perfect Time to Read and Discover!
Irving Public Library holds the secret to a thrilling summer for all ages! Discover live performances, crafting events and other sizzling summer activities while enjoying plenty of great reads between June 1 and July 31. Babies, children, teens and adults are all invited to participate.
READING IS EXCITING!
Make reading exciting for your little ones that can't quite read yet. Parents and babies can participate in this years Summer Reading Challenge by following the babies summer reading challenge log. Not only will there be exciting reading exercises, but they’ll also be challenged to sing, write play and talk!
Register at https://irvinglibrary.readsquared.com or return a log at any Irving Public Library location upon completion. Receive prize pack for completing entire reading log with baby. Prize pack includes a surprise board book, toy, and certificate. All prizes must be picked up by August 12.
Reading logs will be available to download and print at home.

Step 1: Get a reading log or sign up online
Pick up a paper reading log at any Irving Public Library location OR sign up with the library's online log READSquared. Reading logs will soon be available to download and print at home.
Step 2: Read & record
Children ages three to 12 can read to themselves, or be read to, for at least 2 hours per week during the Challenge. Use the log or READsquared to keep track and celebrate accomplishments. Children may read more than 2 hours but are limited to earn only prize per week. After July 31, participants will no longer be able to record reading in READsquared and will not be able to receive a new paper log.
What counts as reading?
For those in the children’s program, minutes matter, as long as it adds up to two hours per week! Whether it’s reading to themselves or a sibling, whether it’s a book, audiobook or a cereal box, track those minutes!
Step 3: Pick up prizes
Each Monday, beginning June 10, a new set of incentives becomes available. Bring the reading log to any Irving Library location or ask a staff member to claim prizes online. The deadline to pick up all prizes/incentives is Monday, Aug. 12. After that, grand prize winners will be announced!
Step 1
Pick up a paper reading log at the South Irving, West Irving or Valley Ranch locations, or try out the online reading log ReadSquared. Reading logs will also be available to download and print from home, coming soon!
Step 2
Log every 30 minutes of reading. Rating the book is optional, but the librarians love to see it.
Teens need to read two and half hours per log, tracked in thirty minute sets. This includes books, audiobooks and graphic novels!
Step 3
After filling out the entire log, stop by an Irving library location and show a staff member the log to pick up a prize! Teens using READsquared will also need to see a staff member for prize verification.

Limitations
Teens can read as much as they want, but the library system can only accept one completed log from a teen per week.
Bonus!
Every badge earned or log turned in also acts as an entry into a drawing to win a grand prize at the end of the summer.
Logs must be turned in by July 31 to be eligible for the drawing. Earned prizes subject to availability.
