All Irving ISD students can read books of interest to them during the summer.  There is not a specific list of titles that must be read for any grade level or class, students may obtain curated lists of reading materials on the “Reading Resources” page of this site.

As a district focused on building a culture of reading, we encourage all parents, staff, and stakeholders to join students in actively reading and discussing their reading.

How Much Should Students Read Over The Summer?

Summer ReadingThe research is clear that children who don't read during the summer can lose up to three months of reading progress and that loss has a cumulative, long-term effect. The following resources and articles provide information about summer reading and summer learning loss. Plus you'll discover great activities to encourage kids to learn, read, and have fun in the summer sun.
