In my classroom, I use the Behavior Clip Chart Method to reinforce positive behavior and to deter negative behavior. If a child is doing something that is very good, such as being a good friend, citizen, or giving a really good answer to a question, I will have them move their clip up. If any child is exhibiting opposite behavior of this, then they will be asked to move their clip down. If a child does move their clip down, but then they change their behavior, they can then later move their clip back up. Every day, the clips are reset to “Ready to Learn” so the students start fresh.
Everyday your child will come home with their take home folders with a card Velcro-ed to the inside of it. This card will indicate where they were on the chart for the day (showing their behavior for the day). Anything on “Ready to Learn” or above, means they had a good day. Anything below “Ready to Learn,” means your child had a tough day. Please leave the cards Velcro-ed in the folder and return folders each day. If you have any questions on this, please feel free to call me or email me.
Consequences for moving their clip down are shown below:
Refocus: 5 minutes of no recess
Teacher’s choice: 10 minutes of no recess or No Recess at all. I will decide which consequence is most appropriate.
Parent Contact: No Recess and I will call home.
Reward for reaching Awesome on the chart:
Every time a student reaches “AWESOME” they get to put a sticker on their sticker chart. When one row on their sticker chart is filled, they get to choose a prize out of my prize bucket.
