The Special Education Department is comprised of highly qualified professionals dedicated to the education and inclusion of students with learning differences. Our team includes Special Education Teachers, Teaching Assistants, Registered Behavioral Therapists, and Related Services specialists, who provide a wide range of supports. These include co-taught General Education classes, inclusion support, small-group Special Education instruction, curricular modifications, and ongoing consultation and collaboration with General Education staff.
The mission of the Department is to create a safe, supportive, and equitable learning environment that meets each student’s individual needs in the least restrictive setting. We provide individualized support by recognizing and building upon students’ unique strengths, helping them develop into competent, self-determined, and curious learners. Through this work, students gain skills in self-advocacy and independence, while also enhancing their perspective-taking, reflection, and critical thinking abilities.
Specialized programming is available through the SAIL (Students Achieving Independent Living) program and the YACHT Academy (Young Adult Career/Community Home Management Training). These programs offer more intensive academic and transition supports for students with cognitive and functional needs. Across all services, students receive supports as determined appropriate by the Team and documented in their Individualized Education Program (IEP). The ultimate goal of every program is to prepare students for a successful transition to meaningful post-secondary opportunities.
