Indian Prairie School District #204 is very proud of their Physical Education Curriculum for levels K-12. Students not only focus on appropriate levels of locomotor movements and sport skills but incorporate health lessons as well. Built into daily lessons our environment opens the door to really enhance the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) that it imperative for our students to practice daily. Working on concepts like teamwork, problem-solving, social awareness, body awareness and communication are all worked on by creating teams, strategic games, and working with a variety of students in a variety of activities. IPSD 204 has based their curriculum of of the newly edited SHAPE National Standards which you can see how in depth the standards go to be a huge resource for our teachings.
Indian Prairie School District has a number of common assessments that are given at the elementary level. Teachers have worked with the middle school staff in making sure that we are preparing all students for the next level of Physical Education and make sure the student continues to grow throughout the Physical Education Curriculum. Some assessments are written assessments that check for understanding while other are skill assessments. Skill assessments at the elementary level are not used to directly influence a grade but more to monitor a student's growth and tracking where improvement may need to be had. See below for the 2nd Grade Locomotor Assessments that will be given. At Patterson it is common for the 3rd and 4th graders to also take the written assessments you will see below just to check for understanding and get to know the information very well by the time they are in 5th grade. Also, at Patterson ALL grade levels participate in the Fitnessgram testing again to gain practice and to see their growth and development through the years.

The Illinois State Board of Education has set up state standards for Physical Education. Through our daily lessons these standards will be met. The state of Illinois also requires students get testes annually using the standardized fitness test Fitnessgram. This test includes push-ups (muscular strength), curl-ups (muscular endurance/core strength), sit and reach (flexibility), and the pacer test cardiovascular endurance). All grade levels will participate with 5th grade scores being reported to the state. Testing will also continue through the secondary grades.
