Grade Level Reading Expectations

Independent Level: The level a student can read, understand, and discuss with minimal assistance.

Instructional Level: The level a student is able to read, understand, and discuss with support and guidance.

Your child should be selecting books to read at home for enjoyment that are at their INDEPENDENT reading level. During reading group with a reading teacher, we use books at the students' INSTRUCTIONAL reading level.

Expected Reading Level by Grades

*Please note that Cowishaw's reading teachers generally work with students who in the orange areas of the chart. If you would like to know what specific reading level your student is working in during their reading group, please contact their classroom or reading improvement teacher.

Su hijo debe seleccionar libros para leer en casa para disfrutarlos en su nivel de lectura INDEPENDIENTE. Durante el grupo de lectura con un maestro de lectura, usamos libros en el nivel de lectura INSTRUCCIONAL de los estudiantes.
