Dear 5W Parents,
Another exciting school year is here, and I must say, I am truly looking forward to working with each and every child in my class. There is going to be plenty of learning going on. However, before we can have a cooperative learning environment, we must establish some general rules as a class. The boys and girls of 4W have discussed the importance of having and following rules. We have all contributed suggestions for making our classroom a safe learning environment. Here is what we came up with (you may open the file for better viewing):
If a child chooses not to follow a rule, there will be a consequence. My discipline plan for the year will be clearly drawn out and followed consistently. The first time that I need to remind a student to follow a rule, the student will receive a verbal warning. If on the same day that student again chooses not to follow a rule, they will need to sign their name in the 4W “Think Time” notebook. If the behavior continues after the previous warnings, the child will need to fill out an action plan form. They will take this form home for you to sign and return the following day. If the child continues to need reminders on the same day, I will call home and discuss their behaviors with you. If the behaviors continue after this step, the child will need to discuss their behavior with Mrs. Russell, the principal. Of course, if an incident required immediate discipline, some of these steps may be skipped to handle that particular situation. You, as a parent, would be informed of such an incident.
For our e-Learning day(s), or if for some reason we have anyone learning remotely (fingers crossed this never happens again!), here are our Virtual Expectations.
The children in 5W will learn that following rules is not only expected but also very rewarding. They will be receiving praise daily for following the rules. On various occasions, a positive note may go home about their behavior. Throughout the school year, various rewards and perks will be available. Students have the opportunity to be surprised with a "My Teacher is Proud of Me" yard sign throughout the year. Of course, the most important reward for good behavior is the joy of learning, which will happen each and every day.
I know that we will have a wonderful year and that we will have positive behavior in our classroom. This will only be possible if we both work together to reinforce proper behavior at home and school. The more communication between us, the more consistency we will have involving your child.
Sincerely,
Mr. Kevin Whyte
