Dear Fifth Grade Families,
I want to take the opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Kevin Whyte and I am honored to be your child’s fifth-grade teacher. This is my twenty-first year of teaching. This is my first year at fifth grade, but I previously taught fourth grade for 16 years, and second grade for four years. I spent ten years teaching at Peterson Elementary, before starting a new chapter at Brooks nine years ago! I am a graduate of Aurora University, earning a Bachelor of Education degree in 2005. I also earned a Master's of Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University-Chicago in 2009.
I have been married to my high-school sweetheart, Kristina, since 2008. We have two rambunctious boys, James (14), and Matthew (11). We also have a 15-year-old miniature schnauzer, Sadie, and a one-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog puppy, Whiskey.
I am looking forward to working with you and your child in reaching his or her full potential. We will have many wonderful experiences and opportunities to learn and grow in the days ahead. I am dedicated to providing all my students with an engaging and rigorous learning experience.
I believe that communication is the key to a great parent-teacher relationship. I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time. You can send me a note, email me at kevin_whyte@ipsd.org. During the day it will be difficult to respond to emails and phone calls. If something requires immediate attention, please call the office at 630-375-3200. I will also do my part by updating our weekly homework sheet each week to keep you informed about what we have been doing in class, as well as upcoming events. For individual concerns, I will contact you by phone, send a note home, or email you.
Please feel free to participate in your child’s fifth-grade year as much as you are able. Helping hands will be needed frequently. Whether it is reading a story to the class, helping with field trips, or any other participation, it will enrich our classroom experiences.
I am looking forward to a wonderful and exciting year with you and your child!
Sincerely,
Mr. Kevin Whyte
