In the Fourth Grade Project Arrow Advanced Academic Program, emphasis is placed on literary analysis and interpretation, linguistic competency, listening and oral communication skills, reasoning skills, and concept development aligned to fifth Grade Common Core Standards. Fourth Grade Project Arrow students investigate and study the system of language, its structures, and its functions. Students read and respond to advanced reading selections and multimedia to reason through situations, think critically about content matter, and focus on making connections to overarching issues, themes, and concepts centering on the interdisciplinary concepts of change and conflict. Students examine how the literary elements of theme, plot, structure, setting, symbolism, and point-of-view enhance and reflect meaning in text. Students engage in this process using the Taba, literature, vocabulary, reasoning, and research models. This process seeks to elevate students’ understanding of themselves, others, and the world.
