Indraprastha College for Women (IPCW), one of the oldest women colleges in India, inaugurated the Department of Sociology in the year 2017.This initiative aimed to build on the rich tradition of sociological research and teaching and contribute to the growth of the discipline. With an outstanding track record of four graduating batches achieving 100 percent results, our students are now pursuing postgraduate studies in India and abroad, not only in sociology but also in diverse fields such as psychology, journalism, public health, management, social work, education, and law. They have secured positions in the esteemed organizations like The Indian Express, Thomson Reuters, Gartner India, and McKinsey and Company. Apart from this our students have been actively participating in various college and university activities and holding key positions in different societies ranging from music, art, dance, debating and media.

Sociology has become one of the most sought-after undergraduate programs for its unique ability to blend the analysis of large-scale global forces with the intricacies of daily life. Pushing the boundaries of curricular requirements and expanding the horizons of thought and action, sociology is developing advanced methods and techniques for social inquiry.

At present, Dr. Jai Pratap Singh is the Teacher-in-Charge, and the dedicated team of teachers include Ms. Meeta Virmani, Dr. Pratichi Majumdar, Dr. Niharika Tripathi, Dr. Seema Tamta, Dr. Shivam Chaurasia, Ms. Deeksha Gangwar, and Ms. Priyanka Danu.

The University of Delhi has been at the forefront of implementing the National Education Policy 2020, focusing on holistic student development. The UGCF-2022 not only provides specific disciplinary training but also promotes multidisciplinary and skill development.

At IPCW, we believe in experiential and interactive learning, encouraging students to form their own perspectives on social reality. In today's digital era, amidst a wealth of information, we emphasize teaching methods that enable students to integrate information with their own experiences and observations, fostering a nuanced understanding of the world.
