Course description

The entire course will run on the pattern of MOOCs with online seminars and presentations by the subject experts from the department and invited speakers who are renowned experts in their specific area of work.

Course requirement: There is no specific pre-requirement for joining this course. However, participants with a basic understanding of various environmental issues will have an advantage.

Course details:

  • Duration: 24 hours (18 August – 15 September 2020)

  • Online lectures/webinars: 2 hours per session, 2:30-4:30 pm, three sessions per week

  • Special lectures by eminent speakers

  • Class size: 50 (on a first come, first serve basis)

  • Platform: Google Meet

  • Fee Structure:

o Students (Undergraduate and Post-graduate) - Rs. 500

o Research scholars and Faculty members - Rs. 1000

Certification: All participants who successfully complete this course are eligible for an E-certificate. Completion consists of submitting course assignments and active participation in all the sessions.

  • Understanding the principles (theory) of ecology, environment and sustainability

  • Developing an ability to identify and describe systems complexity of various environmental issues including natural resource management, sustainable energy, biodiversity conservation, environmental pollution, global climate change, waste management and environmental policies.

  • Increasing understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of sustainability and how that can impact its implementation

  • Gaining practical experience through interdisciplinary talks, presentations and film screenings

  • Exposure to recent research in contemporary environmental topics
