The North Central Correctional Facility houses minimum custody offenders who have been classified as low risk and includes misdemeanants and felons. The institution emphasizes individual accountability and responsibility; assisting offenders for successful return to community. The institution offers a wide variety of programming options as well as an education program contracted through the local area community college. Educating classes include HiSET, literacy, special education for eligible individuals and Life Skills. Cognitive programs offered at NCCF include Thinking for a Change and Achieving Change Through Value-Based Behavior (ACTV). Additional self-help groups are offered including Alcoholics Anonymous and various religious support groups.

Through Iowa Central Community College, NCCF is able to offer vocational education such as training in culinary arts, welding, fork lift training, warehouse management, and others as funding permits. We also provide apprenticeship opportunities in welding, building maintenance, plumbing, baking, cooking, and carpentry.

Work opportunities for offenders are varied as we attempt to assign offenders to jobs that utilize and enhance their skill sets. Offenders are assigned in general; janitorial work, maintenance on and off grounds, landscaping, yard maintenance, recreation, dietary, and gardening. The gardening program produces an excess of 30,000 pounds of vegetables annually.

We believe people can change and our goal is to reduce risk by making opportunities available.
