Lessons

Lessons

This program is still under development - this is what we have so far:

  1. Planting Seeds (Bishop Paiute Tribe) Not taught in small schools

  2. Science Practices

  3. Ecosystems Intro

  4. Plant Exploration (Beyond Plant ID)

  5. Plant Uses and Service Project (Bishop Paiute Tribe) Not taught in small schools, though a service project can be done at the end without the plant uses part of the lesson.

DRAFT lesson with notes and ideas: Matter and Energy (we may never use this for Branching Out, but may incorporate parts of it into other lessons).

Some thoughts to keep in mind...

Build toward Environmental Literacy by investigating the questions:

  • How did indigenous people take care of the land before colonization?

  • What practices and attitudes did/do they have toward the land that help them to be good stewards?

  • What can we learn from that example?

  • What are some examples today of any people being good stewards of the environment?

  • How can we become better stewards of the land, combining current scientific and cultural understanding with traditional practices and attitudes? (or from either)
