Process

Eligibility Criteria

Organizations must be:
- A 501c3 nonprofit organization, or, fiscally sponsored by one
- Headquartered in and serving California
Funds must be used to support bolstering the count of young children, ages 0-8, in the 2020 Census.
Organizations must include all project funders and funding amounts in their project budget, including public sources of funding.
All organizational types and sizes will be considered. Organizations with less than a $500,000 annual operating budget are especially encouraged to apply for Phases 2 and 3 funding.

Submission Process

Application materials, listed below, must be submitted.

Responses to the Application Questions.
Project budget (using only the budget template provided). Must include all project funders and funding amounts.
Organizational budget for the current fiscal year. If the organization is fiscally sponsored, we require the operational budget for the organization applying for the funds, not a fiscal sponsor’s budget.
Organizational documents, including:
- Most recent form 990
- Most recent audited financials. If you don’t have an audit, no problem. Please submit balance sheets and profit and loss statements for the past two fiscal years. Organizations that are fiscally sponsored are required to submit their own internal financials (not the fiscal sponsor’s audited financials).
- List of board of directors and key staff

Review Process

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until July 2020 or until dollars from the Fund are fully spent, whichever occurs first. All funding must be expended by the end of the non-response follow-up period (July 2020). A committee of funders will review the application and may request additional information to inform their decision. Once all materials, including any additional information requested have been received, funding decisions will be communicated within 4-6 weeks.

Reporting Requirements

A final report is due, via email (Census2020@investinkidsla.org) within 45-days of the conclusion of the award period. Applicants who receive funds will receive reporting instructions and templates to assist them in the preparation of these reports.

Please note CCF-CIF grant funds cannot be used for lobbying activities, as described in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986.
