Meet the Founder -  Kerry Snuggs BEM

Kerry Snuggs gave 21 years to the Police force. She was a special constable for 4 years and a regular for 17 years.  In 2012 she was injured on duty assisting with a male who was trying to harm himself.

The injury has had a significant impact on her life.  Kerry ended up using a wheelchair for sometime during her rehabilitation and unfortunately the injury has never fully healed which has left her with chronic pain.  This unfortunately meant the end of Kerry's career as  a Police officer.

Kerry was diagnosed with PTSD in 2019 after a PTSD episode, and after nearly taking her own life.  During this time it was the darkest point she had ever reached and was able to receive support from Service Dogs UK, who partnered her with Bert Snuggs, the dog you can see in the picture. Sadly, Bert passed away in February 2023.

Whilst Kerry was partnered with Bert she was able to continue with some charity work. She had founded a charity in 2014 which helped vulnerable people in the community. Concentrating on bringing the community together to help support those who really benefited from community support.  This charity received the Queens Voluntary award and Kerry received a BEM after stepping up during covid to lead a team of over 200 volunteers to provide food to the community. Over 10,000 people were fed.  Kerry also received a Point of Light award from Boris Johnson and the charity was shortlisted in the National Diversity Awards 2022.

Kerry stepped down from the Acts of Kindness Community (Solent) charity in 2022 and resigned in January 2023.  To improve her own mental wellbeing and to focus on the Intrepid Games.  Sadly the charity has now closed since Kerry left some 2 years later.

Kerry has an extensive charity knowledge after having also been involved in the running of an orphanage in Kenya for 8 years. The orphanage was passed over to a foundation that was carrying out work out there.

Kerry started sitting volleyball in January 2022 and has gained a lot from the camaraderie, the banter and the teamwork along with her physical and mental wellness improving.

Kerry hopes to help others in a similar situation to her.  To give focus and purpose to those who really should be celebrated for the service that they gave.
