Year 5
Welcome back! We trust that you and your children had a fantastic summer break and are now rejuvenated and eager to embark on another exciting year of learning. We are thrilled to present the Year 5 curriculum newsletter for the autumn term, where you can explore the incredible learning opportunities that await your children during this first half of the term.
English
In English, the children will be reading the book "A Long Walk to Water" and they will be writing a biography of the main character Salva.
Maths
In maths, the children will be recap their learning of place value and begin to read and write numbers up to 100,000 and eventually learning about factors, common factors and prime numbers.
Science
In science, the children will be answering the question "Which force is the most influential on Earth?" To help them answer this question they will learn about the importance of each force such as gravity and friction.
History
In history, the children will be answering the question "Why was Britain a desirable country to invade and conquer?" The children will do this through making connections between time periods and researching & explain the origins of a concept.
Computing
In online safety, the children will be learning about online bullying and what this might look like in different contexts. In Computing, the children will be learning about systems and how they have continued to grow and develop over the years.
RE
In RE, the children will be learning about Christanity with a key focus understanding who Jesus was.
PE
In PE, we will be developing our understanding of outdoor and adventurous activities skills. We will be applying different methods of communication to collaborate effectively in teams to succeed in different game situations.
Please note that Year 5's PE days are Tuesday and Friday.
Willow will be swimming this term as one of their PE sessions.
Art
In art, the children will be practising their painting skills to create an abstract landscape that includes silhouettes.
French
In French, the children will be recapping their knowledge of months and learning about time, hobbies, weather and the different seasons.
Music
In music, the children will be answering the question "How Does Music Bring Us Together?" and learning about melody and harmony in music.
RSHE
In RSHE, the children will be learning about what makes a good friend and how to develop friendship skills across a range of contexts.
