Welcome back! We trust that you and your children had a fantastic half term break and are now rejuvenated and eager to continue their exciting year at Rockliffe Manor. We are thrilled to present the Year 5 curriculum newsletter for the spring term, where you can explore the incredible learning opportunities that await your children during this upcoming period.
Reminder: School journey is 17th-21st March, please ensure your child brings a sleeping bag and pillow and one packed lunch for the first day.
In English the children will be reading Letters from the Lighthouse by Emma Carroll and creating their own persuasive letter.
In Maths, the children will be learning about the equivalents in fractions, decimals and percentages. And then moving on to calculating area and perimeter of rectilinear shapes.
In Science, the children will be answering the question "What is the importance of animal and plant reproductions " To help them answer this question they will learn about the different life cycles in different types of animals
As part of British Science Week, in week 3, the children will be focusing on the sustainable goal - clean water and sanitation. They will be exploring the risks of contaminated water and will create their own water filters.
In history, they children will continue their learning on WWII, focusing on hidden significant figures that worked for or against the allies.

In online safety, the children will be learning about managing online information effectively. And in computing they will further develop their physical programming skills by learning to use a Picoh.
In RE, the children will be looking at the 5 pillars of Islam and why muslims pray 5 times a day.
In PE, the children will continue their gymnastic lessons on Fridays and swimming lessons on Wednesdays.
In art the children will be learning how to design and create their own sculpture based on the work of artist, Jacqueline Hurleys.
In French, the children will be learning the different names of the planets and the different determiners each one can have.
In Music, the children will be Introduced to chords and answering the question How does music teach us about our community?

In RHE, the children will be learning how to Identify the impact of everyday hygiene routines on health as well as explain how vaccinations can prevent disease.
