In the Spring Term, our global theme will be Social justice and Equity. We will use the core text ‘Zog and the Flying Doctors’ by Julia Donaldson to learn about Community heroes and people who help us. We will be having visits with these Community heroes to support our learning this half term. We will also be using our 5 finger sticky knowledge to identify key learning and knowledge for this half term.
Our focus will be on Foundations for Phonics which is part of Little Wandle, using rhymes and stories. They will be planned activities linked to the rhymes which will support children's understanding to be able to respond to questions. Environmental sounds will also be done in small groups. Children will also be involved in games to support their blending skills.
This half term, we will continue our number journey by using the In Maths this half term, Nursery children will be introduced to positional language through stories, symbols, map drawing, song and an assault course. We will be encouraging children to use positional language to describe where treasure is hidden and to give give instructions to their friends which will also aid in their speech and language development. We will also be revisiting the learning of one more and one less by solving real life problems.
We will continue to develop as a classroom community, learning how to share and take turns. We will consider the different ways we can help others in the community. The relationships in the class will continue to be developed through small group work, and learning through play. Zones of Regulation will be taught weekly, where children will how to discuss and manage their emotions.
We will be creating a display to showcase our learning about community heroes. This will include different materials and techniques to create our artwork. We will also continue to explore our daily rhyme time with a new nursery rhyme focus each week.
We will continue to develop a deeper understanding of the world around us exploring the different types of jobs people in our communities. The children will explore and identify different types of people who help us and how they do this. We will look in more detail at our community heroes like the emergency services and the children will be able to identify which service we would need to call in different scenarios.
