Welcome back! We trust that you and your children had a fantastic half-term break and are now rejuvenated and eager to continue their final 8 weeks of the year at Rockliffe Manor. We are thrilled to present the Year 5 curriculum newsletter for the rest of Summer term, where you can explore the incredible learning opportunities that await your children during this upcoming period.
In English the children will be reading Letters from the lighthousel and creating their own narratives in this style.
In Maths, the children will be learning how to measure the volume of a cuboid, convert measures of length and vapacity. As well as learning about decimals in the context of money.
In Science, the children will be answering the question "How does the position of the planets affect life on Earth?" To help them answer this question they will learn about the Earth's orbit and the phases of the moon.
In history, the children will be using primary and secondary sources to learn about World War 2 and the key events that shaped this recent historical event.

In online safety, the children will be learning about Copyright and Ownership. And in computing they will be using Scratch to create their own quizes. This will involve using conditions, selecting outcomes and testing.
In RE, the children will be learning how different religions promote peace..
In PE, they will learn athletic skills in preparation for sports day. As well as rounders and continue with swimming lessons.
This half term is Arts Fortnight - the theme is water sports and the children will be using different mediums to create paintings and 3D art based on surfing.
In French, the children will be learning how to describe rooms in the house and to use complex sentences.
In Music, the children will be learning about how music connects us with the environment. This unit will involve Listening, Singing, Playing Composing and Performing. There are options for assessment, deeper learning and further musical exploration.

In RHE, the children will be learning about online safety - how to safely navigate online communities, recognise and manage harmful behaviour online, and identify a range of positive contributions online. In the latter part of the term they will also be looking the different types of careers people choose.
