Welcome back, we hope you had a wonderful break. We are thrilled to present the Nursery curriculum newsletter for the second half of the summer term, where you can explore the incredible learning opportunities that await your child during this upcoming period.
This term we will continue with the Global theme 'Sustainable Development'. We will be exploring this theme through the use of our core text ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’. The children will sequence the story using a story mountain to support them with retelling the story through role play. We will be listening and retelling stories using actions and pictures, and exploring the different components that make up a story, i.e. characters, settings and plot.
Our focus will be on Foundations for Phonics which is part of Little Wandle, using rhymes and stories. They will be planned activities linked to the rhymes which will support children's understanding to be able to respond to questions. This term the children will begin to explore the love for reading scheme from Little Wandle.
Sadly for many of us this will be our last half term together. We will be using our ‘Zones of Regulations’ to help us understand the emotions we may be feeling during the changes. We will be spending time in the Reception playground and classrooms so that we will become more familiar with these areas. We will be talking about different schools, making new friends and routines related to spending all day at school.
In Maths we will be extending our knowledge of number 10 through the use of songs and rhymes. We will solve problems using number stories and real life scenarios. We will also be recapping our knowledge of 2D and 3D shapes.
This term sees the return of Arts fortnight which the theme for this year is ‘Dance’.
We will be focusing our art work around the ballet. Using a variety of different art techniques we will create our own ballet shoes, tutus and ballet dancer pictures. In addition to this we will be taking part in a dance session to experience different genres of dance.
The children will experience different vegetables through sensory activities such as smelling and tasting. The children will also explore cooking activities and learning about a healthy diet.
