9th October 2026
This week, we have been proudly celebrating Black History Month across the school. The whole school took part in an inspiring live assembly led by the Great Big Live Assembly, and all of our classes are undertaking learning throughout the month. Each year group is exploring a wide range of influential figures, with specific foci on key artists, musicians, historical leaders, and change makers.
Today, we celebrated 'Hello Yellow' in recognition World Mental Health Day. It was lovely to see a range of children and staff wearing a splash of yellow, demonstrating that we all have something that makes us unique and that is ok!
Looking ahead, a reminder that Parents' Evening will be taking place next week. If you have not yet booked your slot, please ensure you log into Arbor as soon as possible to secure an appointment with your child's class teacher.
On a community safety note, we must issue a firm reminder regarding parking outside the school gates. We have now actively started reporting any parents and carers who park on the yellow zig-zag lines directly to the council. Furthermore, please do not move the safety cones placed on the road, as these are put in place specifically to safeguard our pupils during busy drop-off and pick-up times. We appreciate your full cooperation in keeping our school street safe for everyone.
Finally, please note that next Friday, 16th October, is the last day of this half term. School will finish at our normal time of 3:20 PM. We will then be closed for the half-term break and look forward to welcoming all children back to school on Monday, 2nd November.
We hope you all have a wonderful and restful weekend.
Mr Atwal
This term, our value is Excellence. This week, we celebrated and recognised World Mental Health Day with our Hello Yellow celebration.
True excellence, whether academic, professional, or personal, is impossible to sustain without solid mental well-being. This includes recognising our own emotions and adapting ourselves so we feel safe. Once we are, we can acheive.
So ask your child:
What can you do to take care of your brain and feelings when something feels too hard?
How does it feel in your body and mind when you are trying your hardest at something you love?
Please see a message below about the London Trams which will impact services to Blackhorse Lane. This will start during October half term until Thursday 5th November. This will also impact Parents Evening. Please plan ahead to ensure your child arrives at school on time.
Year 1
Year 1 has had another busy and engaging week, showing lots of curiosity and enthusiasm across their learning.
In English, we have continued exploring our core text, 'My Shadow is Pink'. The children have been developing their vocabulary by exploring adjectives to describe nouns and using these to build sentences. They have also been identifying and acting out action verbs before using them to create their own sentences.
In Maths, our focus has been on comparing and ordering numbers. The children have been using the greater than, less than and equal to symbols, alongside practical resources such as ten frames and number lines, to compare numbers and order them from smallest to greatest.
In History, we have been investigating how toys have changed over time through advances in technology. The children compared traditional clockwork toys with modern electronic toys and worked collaboratively to sort different examples into groups. They enjoyed discussing how each toy works and using their reasoning skills to explain their choices.
In Science, the children have been investigating different materials and their properties, using vocabulary such as rough, shiny, stretchy and absorbent. Through practical exploration, they tested materials and discussed which were most suitable for different purposes.
Year 2
In English, we stepped into the shoes of a brilliant inventor, just like Izzy Gizmo! We had an immersive experience creating and constructing our own amazing gadgets and gizmos. We spent time planning and making things like a true inventor would, using our imagination and problem-solving skills to build fantastic creations. Take a look at our creative ideas and the fantastic inventions we built! It was also during this time that we revisited the use of past tense, adverbs and used these to write our own diaries following Izzy’s ideas.
In Maths, we have been focusing on place value and counting accurately up to100. We used a mixture of concrete resources such as base 10, counters and number lines. We explored different ways to understand numbers. For some, using the tens frame and the number lines was exciting as we could use counters and do 5 jumps on a numberline when counting in five.
In Science, we began by classifying different materials especially linked to our inventor ‘Izzy Gizmo’, using concrete materials as well as abstract to compare the strengths and the grips. We got to talk about the new vocabulary in science and been using words such as rigid and flexible.
During our PSHE session, we have been looking at relationships, families and building friendships in and outside our own classrooms. We also reflected on how we show manners during family dinner times, with our peers and when we are out and about.
It has been a wonderful term so far and we look forward to seeing the children continue to grow in confidence.
