Year 4

In Science this half term, our topic is ‘States of Matter’. The children will begin by exploring the difference between the particles in solids, liquids and gases using drama and movement. They will deepen their ‘working scientifically’ skills to carry out an investigation, changing the states of different familiar objects. They will then record their results and make conclusions based on what they have discovered. The children will also explore the different stages of the water cycle and will use scientific vocabulary to describe this.

This half term the children will dive into the world of Ancient Greece. Here, they will learn about the impact of a hierarchy on a civilisation, how the Greek empire ruled as far as Afghanistan and India and reflecting on the legacy the Greek empire has left in today's society.

In Computing, year 4 will be looking into how network devices make up the internet. They will learn this through outlining how websites can be shared via the World Wide Web (WWW), describing how content can be added and accessed on the World Wide Web & evaluating the consequences of unreliable content

RE learning will focus on different ways of worship between faiths. We will discuss the similarities and differences between how members of different faiths engage in worship, focusing on Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism.

This year, PE will be one session per week and all children will have the opportunity to go swimming throughout the year. Year 4 will have an indoor session focusing on the skills within benchball and an outdoor session of invasion games within football.   

This half term the children will be linking their history learning by creating clay sculptures reminiscent of Ancient Greece. The sculptures will be inspired by the works of Grayson Perry.

This half term the children will be looking at the song Mamma Mia and practising the song. 

In French, the children will be looking at themselves in the world. They will be describing themselves and having conversations. 

Within RSHE, the children will be looking at relationships. The children will be discussing different relationships and delve into conversations about bullying and stereotypes.
