Philosophy and Platform

What We Believe:

With roots in labor unions, the Working Families Party believes in having a government with a wide scope of power that prioritizes protecting social safety nets and increasing economic, racial, and social equality.

We are against capitalism that robs the working people of their rights, freedoms, money, and health, and against the wealthy - and the political insiders who serve them - who have rigged our economy and democracy. The rich defund our schools, undermined community services, and strip working people of the right to organize into unions.

The Working Families Party fights for workers over bosses and the people over the powerful, knowing that everyone should have the right to healthy food and water, a living wage, and a safe community which has been robbed from us by the rich and powerful.

Our Platform: The people's Charter

Americans are coming together to care for each other but our government isn’t caring for us.

The People's Charter is our roadmap out of our state of crisis, and to America that works for the many, not the privileged and powerful few.

We can heal the wounds from the pandemic, the economic depression, and a history of racism. Working people can make a nation that cares for all of us.

Repairing Historic Harms

- Shift resources away from policing, jails, and detention centers, wars, and agencies that separate families. Shift resources into schools, housing, healthcare, and jobs.
- Respect the sovereignty of Indigenous Peoples and Tribal Nations

Labor and Employment Policies that Benefits the Average Worker

- Ensure right to join a union
- Raise minimum wage to $15
- Protect small businesses during the pandemic
- Create millions of jobs - upgrading infrastructure, upgrading buildings, staffing schools, hospitals, and health departments, restoring natural ecosystems, creating opportunities for farmers and rural communities, and in American manufacturing
- Paid medical leave, paid sick days, and income support for full-time parents

Increase Social Safety Nets and Increase Equality

- Provide safe, affordable housing for all
- Guarantee home and community based services for everyone
- Cancel student debt
- Tax giant corporations and the wealth of billionaires

Accessible Healthcare

- Free and universal healthcare
- Free Covid-19 testing and treatment, including the vaccine once one is available

Invest to Make Our Systems Resilient to Challenges

- Buy out oil and gas companies instead of subsidizing and bailing them out to further our transition away from fossil fuels and towards regenerative energy sources
- Emphasize international cooperation with other countries to confront challenges that transcend boarders, like pandemics, climate change, and armed conflicts.
- Protect our democracy from takeover by billionaires, corporations, war profiteers, and bigots by getting big money out of politics and ensuring that every vote counts
