TED-Ed Clubs are a part of TED-Ed's Student Talks Program, a free curriculum for students and educators on a mission to identify, develop, and deliver students´ ideas via TED-style talks under the slogan “ideas woth spreading”. When it was founded, in 1984, TED (which stands for “Technology, Entertainment, and Design”) brought together a few hundred people in a single annual conference in California.
A total of 6 teams with 12 students of 1st Bat participated in TED-ED Club Reus-Baix Camp on the past 3rd May at the Auditorium in l´Hospitalet de l´Infant. This educational project consisted of giving a 3-minute talk about the Sustainable Development Goals, carrying out this new challenge the pupils developed not only their creativity but also their oral communication skills.
The task was included in the course curriculum and the most creative presentations were chosen to participate in this experience. During the Culture Days the participants rehearsed their speeches in an activity that simulated the Oscars and when all the presentations were given the conference attendees voted for their favourite one. The Oscar went to Team 3: Enara Cruxent, Judit Lanceta. Fair Growth.

These are some of the opinions of the participants:
«I participated in the TED-ED Club and I think it is a very good experience for everyone not only for the day of the presentation but also for the path, we had to prepare the script, think of a catchy topic… It is a way of practicing our writing and oral skills. Now, after having done all this process I think I have improved a lot. I’m more at ease and I do not get embarrassed so easily. I am very happy because I have learned new techniques and I had the opportunity to present a social topic in English in front of a lot of people.
I also want to thank Alison for her job, she was always ready to help us and correct our mistakes.I would definitely recommend this activity to everybody. It is very useful and you will not regret it.It takes a lot of time but it pays off»
Judith Lanceta
«I liked the experience but I was scared before going up on stage. After the performance I felt really proud of myself. It will probably help me with my future presentations and this is a good point».
Damir Achmiz
«I really liked the experience because I would never have imagined that I could perform as confident and assertive as I did. I felt very optimistic and self-assured on stage and that was thanks to all the hard work and practice behind our presentation. After the performance I felt proud of myself and my team. Moreover, I ended up very glad about how it turned out.
I think this is a useful task that has helped me to build up my confidence on stage. In addition, I have a clear idea on how to structure a topic and develop it in order to spread its values correctly»
Ana Alonso
«The experience in general was very beneficial. On the one hand, I got to improve my communication skills to perform in front of a big public, something I had never done before by myself. On the other hand, I also had a good time watching how other students from a different high school work. When it comes to the performance, I am glad I did not get too nervous when I went up on stage and after the talk I felt relieved and happy that it was over and went better than expected.
Last last but not least, I am sure that this project will help me in the future from the most simple stuff like talking to someone I have never met before to the most complex ones such as a job interview or the presentation of a project»
Jordi Comí
«I really liked the experience because it was something new for me and I have learned a lot during the process of my TED Talk. We had to do the following: getting the audience´s attention in the introduction, keeping them engaged in the body and including something striking in the conclusion. After the performance I felt very relaxed because all the tension and nerves I had the previous days disappeared and our effort was reflected on our presentation. The most important part of the project was to demonstrate that we had achieved our goal.
I think that it will be really useful for me and my future because every time I have to present a project or a presentation I am less nervous, more confident and I enjoy the time on stage. Maybe, in the future I am going to work directly with the public and having experience giving presentations like this is going to be very helpful»
Marina Curto
«Taking part in the TED-ED Club was an unforgettable experience because not only did I feel very excited but also I was proud of myself. Furthermore, participating in this activity is going to help me in the future because now I can speak in public more fluently»
