Deaf children of St. Rita's School, Cincinnati, OH, singing the Star Spangled Banner in sign language

Led by Diana Laufenberg, Inquiry Schools is thrilled to receive support for this professional development project sponsored in part by the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources Midwest Region Program, located at Illinois State University. Focused on the K-5 teachers in the CESA #4 region of Wisconsin, we look to build community and curriculum throughout the 2025-2026 school year. Our project strategically leverages existing topics and content within the Early Literacy Curriculum as a foundation for developing inquiry-based lessons that incorporate primary sources. By connecting social studies skills and Library of Congress resources to an already established literacy curricular focus, we aim to provide teachers with a more accessible pathway to integrate these lessons into their instruction and improve student literacy.
