Hauora is a Māori view of health unique to New Zealand, and covers the physical, mental, social and spiritual needs that everyone has. This is also one of our IPS School Values and as such, we also cover these aspects during He Awhi Taonga.
Exercise can increase competency in gross motor skills, help to control obesity, improve self-esteem and social skills, encourage an active lifestyle, and maintain motivation in various areas of life.
Some Physical activities you could do with your child at home are:
Dancing and moving to music;
Tossing small bean bags;
Riding scooters and bikes;
Passing/hitting balloons;
Bowling - use a tennis ball and empty milk bottles if you don't have a real set;
Hoops - go through them, hop from one to another;
Ball rolling/passing;
Balancing - put chalk or tapes lines on the floor (zig zags, curvy lines, straight lines) and get your child to follow the lines;
Swings;
Walking.
