Broadcasting is my passion, and it is the main focus of Tribe TV. We have two primary broadcasting projects, but we also make additional videos when requested. As editor-in-chief, I have produced over 50 videos since the second semester of last school year.
Tribe TV produces weekly episodes for the school, including four regular weekly segments - weekly announcements, the question of the week to get the student body involved, the Be Biloxi's Best segment, and the birthday segment. In addition to those, we often produce other segments such as sports, feature videos, news, etc. On the question of the week, we ask students a different question every week, ranging from seasonal questions to trivia and fun games such as brain teasers. The Be Biloxi's Best segment features a student, faculty, or staff member of Biloxi High that represents "Biloxi's Best." It is usually created by our sub-production team, which consists of students in the Intro to Broadcast Journalism class.
Our second broadcasting project is the monthly episodes we make for the City of Biloxi. Episodes air on the City of Biloxi’s public broadcasting network (BTV) and are livestreamed on one of the city's YouTube channels. Although the episodes mainly cover Biloxi High School, they also include news and information about Biloxi Public School District as a whole. Some segments are also featured in our weekly episodes, but most BTV episodes contain original segments that we specially produce for them.
In addition to the two main projects above, we also produce other videos on special topics when requested.
Each year, Tribe TV makes feature videos about eleven CTE (Career Technology Education) classes at Biloxi High. This project was commissioned by our CTE director, Dr. Sheneatha McDaniel, to introduce the classes to freshmen. Above is the video I made for the Business, Marketing, and Finance class.
We made this video when the school implemented new metal detectors. It was requested by our principal, Ms. Martin.
Here, I would like to showcase some of my best broadcasting work from this year.
This is a news video about Biloxi High School's annual winter festival, Winter Magic. I did everything except reading the voiceovers.
My teammate Sadie and I interviewed Mr. Jones, who won the Teacher of the Year award at Biloxi High. We were able to dive deep with this interview and record some great B-roll showcasing his teaching activities.
In November of last year, William Carey University visited Biloxi High to give a presentation to seniors. I had the privilege of interviewing Dr. Ben Barnett, president and CEO of the university, to ask him about his impression of BHS and get some information about William Carey University.
