Cell Phone/iPod Policy
*The students are responsible at all times for the care and supervision of any device(s) he/she brings on
the Washington D.C. Trip.
Cell phones will be permitted on the DC Trip with restrictions. However, for security and logistical
reasons we recommend that cell phones stay home. Cell phones are not necessary to make contact with
your child during the trip. Each evening your child will have the opportunity to call home from a
chaperone phone. Additionally, the principal will have a Google Voice number, so parents can contact
him directly in the case of an emergency. Updates on the status of our trip are also posted through our
Facebook and DC Website pages.
· Authorized Use (GREEN)
· For pictures at most times, as long as the museums and sites allow.
· For games and music while traveling for extended periods on the bus.
· For messages and calls ONLY while on the BUS for extended periods and in the evening at the HOTEL.
· NOT Authorized Usage (RED)
· While touring D.C.
· During short bus rides in D.C.
· At any time a chaperone dictates for general safety, well-being, and education of the student/group.
· Consequences
· First Offense - Warning
· Second Offense - Phone removed for the remainder of the day.
· Third Offense - Phone removed for the remainder of the trip.
· Other violation according to the “Independence Schools Guidelines for the Appropriate Use of Technology Resources” will be handled by the principal in accordance with the student code of conduct.
Additional Information:
*The school will be bringing breakfast bars and pallets of water for the students!
*Remember the Rule of 3 for snacks and drinks!
*More formal than usual school wear while out and about
Ex: Jeans, shorts, khakis, cargo shorts, capri pants, casual dresses, skirts, blouses
Tennis shoes for walking! (Bring 2 pair, if possible)
For respect at our National Monuments, Memorials, and Government Buildings, please:
–No hats
–No athletic wear
–No holes or frays in clothing
