The AI Boom that Big Tech is driving is costing our communities and impacting our daily lives. AI is set to disrupt 25% of the workforce by 2028, leaving millions of people without an income. The Data Centers necessary to power AI are a threat to our health, water and power supply, and encroaching on our basic human rights.
This moment of significant economic tumult, where millions will suffer without a meaningful response, requires our political leaders to take bold action by enacting a universal basic income and other regulatory measures that support an ethical approach to AI proliferation.
Join us in sending a clear message to our elected representatives: we must protect individuals and families - we must have a basic income now.
No AI without UBI!
Take to Social Media to call out Tech Giants behind the Scale at All Cost Rise of AI.
Call out your elected officials - We must have Ethical AI!
Example #1
I demand ethical AI now. Tech giants like @meta, @amazon, and @google are scaling AI at all costs. These Tech giants are getting billions of dollars in tax subsidies to build AI Data Centers that are going to make MY energy bills higher, and are being built with our tax dollars. [insert elected official handle] you need to act and fight for your constituents. #EthicalAINow
Example #2
WOW. A new study from @fundforhumanity estimates AI is going to disrupt 45 million U.S. Jobs in just 3 years. [insert elected official handle] We are not prepared for this! We need Universal Basic Income before millions of people get left behind. #EthicalAINow #UBI

Writing a Letter to the Editor of your local news publication is an important way to connect with readers across you community. Focusing your letter on AI and the impact on jobs and your community is an opportunity to educate people and help them understand the urgency for action. Urging journalists and elected to take action is critical. Thanks for digging into this important conversation.
Tips for Writing an LTE
Most publications have a word count limit for LTE submissions. Try to keep it under 150 words!
Find an article in the publication you are submitting to about AI, or jobs reports or data centers - something relevant, and then reference that in your letter.
Make the ask clear: who are you asking to take action, and what do they need to do? In the template, the ask for the newspaper is to more effectively cover the topic of AI and the ask for elected officials to prioritize basic income.
If appropriate, personalize the LTE - what is your own experience to connect to the topic. Are you worried about your child being able to get a job when they are an adult?
Connect readers to the report or other resources for learning more - if they are inspired by your letter, give them more!
