100 MAYORS CAMPAIGN
CAMPAIGN GOAL
100 MAYORS TO JOIN MAYORS FOR A GUARANTEED INCOME!
The fight for guaranteed income must happen at all levels of government. Grassroots can have a huge impact on local leadership, who can in turn influence elected officials at the state and federal level. From this truth, the 100 Mayors for Guaranteed Income Campaign is born.
The campaign is designed for constituents across the country to petition and call their Mayors, urging them to support guaranteed income. Local residents can write letters to the editors of local papers, or coordinate with organizations or small businesses to help Mayors understand their community's desire for a guaranteed income. Through direct and public pressure, we can get 100 new Mayors to publicly support Guaranteed Income and work to promote the idea at a local, state, and federal level.

HOW CAN MAYORS DEMONSTRATE SUPPORT FOR A GUARANTEED INCOME?
JOIN MGI
MGI is a network of Mayors advocating for Guaranteed Income at the federal level. In joining MGI, Mayors are agreeing to the Statement of Principles to advocate, invest, and invite:
Advocate for a guaranteed income at the local, state, and federal level.
Invest in narrative change efforts to highlight the lived experiences of economic insecurity
Invite other cities to join us in our efforts, and provide technical assistance and funding support for new pilots.
Here is the open letter to President Biden and VP Harris that signed by nearly all of the mayors who are part of Mayors for a Guaranteed Income (MGI). For several mayors, this is currently their primary effort for advocating for federal legislation for guaranteed income.
LEAD A PILOT PROGRAM
For the cities and mayors who are opting to lead a guaranteed income pilot or demonstration, there have been a variety of ways these have been organized and funded
St. Paul, Minnesota is leading the People's Prosperity Pilot, and has taken a hybrid approach to funding, a portion coming from CARES money, private donors and more.
Hudson, NY is exclusively funding their 25 people / $500 per month for 5 years pilot from private donations and is not led by the Mayor, but is endorsed by him.
The city of Gainesville, FL is targeting people with a criminal record to receive a recurring monthly income for up to two years to help them get back on their feet. Mayor Poe is part of MGI and partnering with a local nonprofit, Community Spring, to fund and implement the demonstration.
ADVOCACY EFFORTS
Some mayors advocate for guaranteed income in organized events, panel discussions, or op-eds, at either the local or national level. This type of engagement is left up to each mayor, but there are lots of opportunities for advocacy organized by MGI and their partner organizations.
Atlanta has organized the 4th Ward Task Force, formed by a larger network of organizations and leaders in the community, with the goal of building a plan for a guaranteed income pilot.
