Instrumentation

Our group is also involved in the scientific planning of several instrument development projects, both from space and from ground, as well as in their early science exploitation, including Guaranteed Time Observations. In particular:

• New generation instruments for the WHT, VLT and ELT:

  • ERIS: an AO-assisted imager and IFU spectrograph in the NIR for VLT.

  • MOONS: a multi-object spectrograph in the NIR for VLT.

  • MAVIS: an AO assisted imager and spectrograph in the optical for VLT.

  • ANDES: a high resolution spectrograph for ELT (formerly referred to as HIRES).

  • MOSAIC: a multi-object and multi-IFU spectrograph in the optical and NIR for ELT

  • WEAVE: a multi-object spectrograph in the optical for WHT

• Space-borne missions:

  • NIRSpec: a multi-object IR spectrograph on board of JWST.

  • Euclid: an optical and NIR imager and NIR slitless spectrograph to map the geometry of the universe.

• Radio instrumentation:

  • SRT: radio telescope with both single-dish and VLBI modes.

  • SKA: the largest and most sensitive radio telescope ever to be constructed.
