During the 2019 - 2020 school year, students in Montbui High School had the chance to learn math in English. Students carried out a group project where they learned basic math vocabulary and created a presentation about functions in daily life. The unit is called "Track the trends, predict the future?" where the main idea of the unit was that functions can be used to better understand changes in relationships in our world.
At the beginning of the unit, the teacher introduced three main questions, factual, conceptual, and debatable that would help students to understand what they should be able to answer at the end of the unit.
In the first session, students were introduced to the main ideas of the unit and to basic math vocabulary which helped them to explain the mathematical operations involved in the activities.
In the following session, the students learned the concept of a function and the different types of functions through daily life examples. Later on, students learned how to graph a function manually and using GeoGebra software. Those activities helped students to eventually develop their presentations about the functions they chose to study.
