Learning Management System
Moodle is an open-source learning management system (LMS) that provides Immaculata University with a single, robust, secure, and integrated system that allows the classroom to extend onto a collaborative online learning environment.
Moodle delivers course content and an extensive set of learner-centric tools through a simple interface that empower student learning, whether by augmenting traditional learning methods through hybrid courses or replacing face-to-face classes with flexible online instruction.
Moodle, which is an acronym for Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment, is web-based and so can be accessed by students from anywhere in the world. With a default mobile-compatible interface and cross-browser compatibility, content on the Moodle platform is easily accessible and consistent across different web browsers, operating systems, and devices.
Moodle is similar to many other Learning Management Systems you may have used in the past, such as Canvas, Blackboard or D2L. Here at Immaculata (IU) we use Moodle as our main learning platform.
We are fortunate at IU to have a customized version of Moodle designed specifically to fit our student's unique needs. Users are highly encouraged to scroll through the mini-course below. It is a great place to start and is intended to provide you with the fundamental knowledge and skills to most effectively utilize Immaculata University's Learning Management System, or 'LMS'.
Users can search this site and Moodle by keyword to quickly locate important resources by following the instructions below.
This feature is customized for each user allowing them to search their personal Moodle using a keyword to quickly locate content.
Search institutional sites, including:
Moodledocs can be used to locate the most recent published instructions from the service provider including directions, quick guides, and resources. The searchable Moodle site can also be used to locate specific How-to instructions by using the Search MoodleDocs conversation box on the top right of the screen. Make sure you are using the current version, users can toggle the blue 4.2 docs down arrow to update to different versions. Effective Fall 2023, IU will be transitioned to Moodle 4.1.5.
Please note: IU Moodle is customized and not all of the more advanced functionality is available. Users seeking to utilize advanced Moodle capabilities from this site are encouraged to submit a Freshservice ticket or you may also request a Moodle training session with the Office of Online Learning here.
There is a Help button on the left side of every screen. We recommend users contact Freshservice for assistance, either via phone or creating a ticket. I can assure you the tickets are consistently monitored to address needs as quickly as possible. By using this service, they are also able to quickly catch any trends in tickets to resolve any systematic issues.
On the same Help button, there is an Office of Online Learning tab, where users can Schedule an individual meeting/training. This interface links directly to the Office of Online Learning team calendars to block off an hour of individual training.
