WP2 focuses on the development and commercialisation of the Underwater Vision Profiler 6 micro (UVP6m), a high-frequency, cost-effective imaging instrument designed to extend in-situ plankton observations to smaller size classes. Building on the proven UVP6 technology, the UVP6m will enable high-resolution monitoring of particles, microplankton, and mesozooplankton across a variety of platforms, including gliders, floats, and moorings, bridging a critical gap in in situ plankton observation.
The WP advances the UVP6m from prototype (initially developed in 2023 as part of the CE-H2020 project TECHnologies for OCEAN Sensing, TechOceanS) to an operational, sea-ready instrument, supporting integration with existing infrastructures and DTO applications.
Develop and optimise UVP6m subsystems, including electronics, lighting, and firmware
Establish calibration and testing procedures to ensure inter-calibrated, reliable instrument measurements
Assemble, calibrate, and sea-test five UVP6m prototypes for deployment in the Balearic, North, and Baltic Seas
Integrate the UVP6m alongside the UVP6 on a SeaExplorer glider
Commercialize the UVP6m through a licensing agreement with partner Hydroptic for long-term scientific use
