Good mental health is important for performing well in your studies.
It is quite common for students to experience distress, anxiety and mental health difficulties throughout their learning.
Mental health difficulties can make it challenging to be successful in your studies and can impact your personal life too!
If you need any assistance or would like to chat with someone about your situation drop into Student Services.
Our staff will listen and provide you with support and guidance in the right direction.
Hot tea and chocolates are always kept available to our students!
We know that students are simultaneously trying to balance work and study.
If you need to work and study, we want to make sure you have a good plan and schedule in place.
Here are a few tips to supporting yourself and avoid being overloaded:
Be fully organised and have a realistic plan,
Ensure you have a flexible schedule,
Prioritise your studies/work and allocate time for yourself to unwind,
Reaching out for help when you need it,
Avoid procrastination and wasting time,
Learn how to manage your stress.
Remember, it is not just about work & study. You should also make sure that you allocate time to enjoy your life outside of work and your learning.
This is very important! We understand this too. Very often, students don't allow themselves enough time to relax and enjoy quality time with friends.
Student Services also offers an online training program called Mind Matters. This is a students guide to positive mental health.
Rememeber your study time will only make up a small percentage of your life and there are other areas of your life will help you grow just as well!
Have you heard about student trips and social activities at IMC?
They happen throughout the year! They are a great opportunity to meet and bond with different classmates, make new friends, and explore some of Sydney’s fantastic landmarks and historical places.
Student Services also organises a number of different social and career activities on campus all year round.
You can hear about these events via student newsletters and Moodle announcements.
You can also log onto your Student Experience page for more information. Or log on to our website here.
If you are having trouble or finding things difficult to bear with, you should know that Student Services provides a free and confidential counselling service.
Student Services can help you adjust to life in Sydney, deal with changes or personal situations, and support you through tough times.
It is important to know that you are not alone in dealing with the pressures you may face as a student. All members of our team are willing to offer guidance and support if required. Our Senior Student Services Manager and the Academic and Administrative teams have an open-door policy and are willing to talk to you about any matters you may be facing.
Individual assistance is available for students in need of specialised counselling via counselling@imc.edu.au
