The English Access Micro-scholarship Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and is part of the Office of English Language Program's suite of initiatives.
The English Access Micro-scholarship Program provides a foundation of English language skills to talented youth from economically disadvantaged sectors through after school classes and intensive sessions. The program gives participants English skills that may lead to better jobs and educational prospects. Participants also gain the ability to compete for and participate in future exchanges and study in the United States.
Access Hermosillo students are creating their final Arduino project, where they need to incorporate all knowledge acquired in their technology class to create a device that has several characteristics in programming, modeling, creativity, functionality, and content presentation. They are developing their projects and recording all evidences to show the progress and steps they followed.
Access students celebrated and presented their projects about National Volunteer Month to Cecilia Jerez. This was presented by joining the Earth Day and Volunteer month appreciation. They presented and reflected about their projects social and environmental impact on our communities.
EARTH DAY
To celebrate the Earth Day, Access students created a series of videos and podcasts with the objective of raising awareness in Hermosillo's community in the care of the environment, how to recycle plastic and paper, where can we recycle, recommendations and sustainable development goals explanation, and a comparison in pollution between Mexico and other countries.
We had a visit from the Vice Consul Alexander Wilson from Hermosillo's consulate. He talked about the commemoration of the month "Jazz Appreciation Month". He shared a lot of interesting information the celebration and its history. It was a great experience for students who were constantly asking questions and enjoying the information and music shared.
On Wednesday March 23rd, we received the visit of the Vice Consul Hann Marie Hager, who talked to Access students about Women History Month, and presented a series of facts and important information regarding to gender equality and female entrepreneurship, as well as many other important matters about the topic. Access students asked questions and shared their thoughts in the session. It was a great presentation and very informative for Access Students.
On March 17th, we received David Fay, the Regional English Language Officer from Mexico, Belize, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. He actively participated with Access Hermosillo in the theme "Factors that promote success" and "Life Plans”. Students shared with him their plans for the future and we all discussed and congratulated them on their excellent plans.
We were honored to receive David and thankful because he shared some of his vast knowledge with the class. He encouraged students to keep aspiring to become better people and to fulfill their dreams.
Today, Access Hermosillo presented their projects ``Women's History Month Comic". We received visitors to be part of this important commemoration and to receive feedback about our projects. We had Cecilia Jerez, Brenda Bustamante, Pietro Gatteschi, and Irene Violante.
Access students practiced and recalled mechanics in arduino programming IDE. They made a basic project using at least 3 components and more than 10 lines of code.
Access Students created new podcasts about a given topic. These podcasts were a teamwork activity.
Access Students created a video using a cartoon episode and role-played with the actual dialogues of the cartoon.
Access Students created videos to present The Undefeated 44, a collection of dreamers and doers, noisy geniuses and quiet innovators, record-breakers and symbols of pride and aspiration.
Access Hermosillo students created technological devices as a final project using their programming and coding skills with Arduino from Technology class. They presented their projects with videos where they explained the materials, procedure, objective and reflection about their team projects (completely virtual).
