Week 2 - Ordering Integers
Title
Duration
The Directional Value: Ordering and Justifying Position on the Number Line
2 x 35 Minutes
Learning Objective
Students will achieve deep conceptual understanding by accurately comparing and ordering mixed sets of integers using the number line as a directional value map. They will utilize digital tools and error analysis reflection (Assessment as Learning) to identify and correct the Magnitude Misconception, demonstrating their ability to justifythe concept that value decreases as the number moves left from zero.
In Week 2, the primary role of technology is to facilitate Assessment as Learning (AaL). The Geogebra Number Line Applet is used to objectively visualize the students' Magnitude Error (e.g., placing −9 incorrectly), immediately providing concrete evidence against their flawed intuition. The subsequent LLM Reflection Prompts guide students to articulate why they made the mistake and what the correct directional rule is. This process moves students beyond simply memorizing the order to genuinely justifying it conceptually.
