The unit started its official establishment in early 2021, and currently resides within the compound of Centre for Professional Development
From campus or from home, IIUM Micro-Credential Unit supports anyone who feels that micro-credential is what they want to explore and to elevate your career development.
As described in the MQA micro-credential 2019 guideline, the conventional university credentials known as micro-credentials have been the primary means to acquire qualifications for work, profession and further studies. These qualifications often represent as a formal recognition of the achievement of a particular body of knowledge, skills-set and related professional values through an extended period of time.
The introduction of micro-credential in IIUM will enhance the effort to promote lifelong learning and to leverage the online learning method, especially during the Control Movement Order period. Thus, it is proposed that IIUM Centre of Studies, Centres, Divisions, Institutes and Offices to undertake micro-credential as a legitimate way to offer knowledge and skills to the community in general.
Micro-credential modules require that creators to create curriculum, digital content and perform technological instructional delivery. This development is tedious and would require commitment from all. Thus, it is hope that through appropriate revenue sharing incentive a sustainable number of modules could be created and developed on a regular basis for the benefit of the community, IIUM and module creators.
