Rivers are well known for providing not only water for human consumption, but also excellent habitat and food for many of the earth's organisms. Rivers support a diverse range of rare plants and trees. The river is used by animals for food and water. Small fish from the river are eaten by birds such as kingfishers. It is our responsibility as humans to always strive to keep our rivers clean and free of pollution. When river water becomes polluted, it has a number of negative consequences for all living things. As a result, Mahallah Asiah, in collaboration with IIUM River of Life, decided to move forward with this project in order to make the river a clean, safe, and pleasant place.
The proposed project's goal is to clean the assigned river area and make it look nicer and safer for all residents. This project will also serve as an education platform, informing participants about the importance of environmental stewardship and its significance to humankind. The project entailed the removal of solid waste dumped in the water as well as the clearing of the river area, which was already infested with shrubs.
The participants in this programme were Principal and four Fellows of Mahallah Asiah, three River of Life Committee, 12 Mahallah Representative Committee 2021/2022 of Mahallah Asiah, and five Block Representative Committee 2021/2022 of Mahallah Asiah. This program was launched by the Chairman of IIUM River of Life, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ma'an Fahmi Rashid al-Khatib.
To conclude, this activity created a holistic environment of mutual remembrance, specifically for residents of Mahallah Asiah and, more broadly, for the IIUM community as a whole. As a result, it helped to raise awareness about the importance of loving and protecting our river. We sincerely hope that the project will benefit all of the participants.
