Welcome to the Quantum Spintronics (Q-SPIN) Group at the Department of Physics, IIT Ropar. At Q-SPIN, we aim to push the boundaries of applied spintronic devices using emerging quantum materials. Our research explores the unique properties and potential applications of novel quantum materials in developing next-generation spintronic devices, advancing technologies that harness the power of quantum mechanics for practical, high-performance applications. We primarily focus on:
•Advanced Materials Research: Exploring van der Waals, Weyl, Dirac, and other spintronic materials thin film (magnetic/non-magnetic), and heterostructures.
•Applied Spintronic Devices: Developing sub-THz oscillators, Magnetic Tunnel Junctions, SOT, and STT technologies for unconventional computing and magnetic memory applications.
Prachi joined the group as a PhD student.
We published in Advanced Materials, 2025.
We published in ACS Nano, 2025.
Dr. Lakhan Bainsla is serving as a Co-Principal Investigator on a prestigious ₹100 Crore PAIR grant awarded to IIT Ropar, funded by the ANRF, India.
The group PI, Dr. Lakhan Bainsla, has recently secured a research grant of ₹5 Crore from MeitY under the NSF-MeitY joint call. This project will be carried out with colleagues at IIT Ropar, IIT Delhi, and the University of Minnesota (NSF-funded).
We published in Nature Communications, 2024.
We are seeking motivated and dynamic individuals to join our team as Postdocs and Ph.D. students. If you are interested in joining our group, please write to group Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Lakhan Bainsla at his email: lakhan.bainsla@iitrpr.ac.in
