ABOUT IIT ROPAR

Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar, is one of the eight new IITs set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, in 2008 to enhance the quality of technical education in the country.

IIT Ropar is located in Rupnagar (formerly known as Ropar), a town in the district of Rupnagar. Rupnagar town is district Rupnagar's headquarters and is 42 km. from Chandigarh, the state capital. It is connected by road on National Highway NH-21. The Delhi-Ambala-Una railway line passes through Rupnagar and provides rail connectivity. The nearest airport is Chandigarh, at a distance of about 50 km.

ABOUT DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS 

The Department of Mathematics, founded in 2009, explores interdisciplinary research and delivers top-tier education in Mathematics. Our faculty excel in pure and Applied Mathematics, Statistics and theoretical Computer Science. We offer PhD programs since 2010, MSc since 2015, BTech in Math & Computing since 2019 and BSc-BEd since 2025. We welcome students and faculty from other institutes for short - term research via summer internships.
