WELCOME TO THE HOME PAGE OF OUR RESEARCH GROUP
Dr. S. Manigandan is a chemical engineer with 5+ years of industrial R&D experience and 7+ years of teaching experience at a reputable academic institution. He worked as a Scientist at Johnson & Johnson India Pvt. Ltd. (J&J) prior to starting his PhD. Dr. Manigandan is a recipient of the Shah-Schulman Award for the best PhD thesis in Colloid & Interface Science in India for the Year 2017, given by the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) at the Indian Chemical Engineering Congress, 2018 (CHEMCON-2018). He completed his PhD in chemical engineering from IIT Madras in 2017 and a master's in chemical engineering from IIT Kharagpur in 2009. His research interests include colloid and interfacial engineering; self-assembly of Janus or patchy particles; nanoparticle synthesis and characterization; self-propelled/active particles; Pickering emulsion and foam; wastewater treatment using rough particles; and nanoplastics removal. He has more than 40 international publications in his research domain, with a few currently in review.
As a colloids & interfacial engineering research group, we are constantly endeavouring to address the problems related to self-assembly of patchy colloids, Janus colloids, water-in-water Pickering emulsion, emulsification in turbulent flow, synthesis of spherical and non-spherical microcapsules, physics of phase separation of bio-polymers, active colloidal clusters and colloidal chains, synthesis of nano and micron-sized particles, and removal of environmental contaminants from pharmaceutical and personal healthcare products using nano/micromotors. We established a colloid and interfacial Engineering research lab at IIT Ropar. Currently, six PhD research scholars are working under my guidance. We seek suitable candidates to pursue a PhD to work on the following projects.
1. Soft Matter & Nanomaterials ; 2. Aqueous Two-Phase Systems (ATPS); 3. Water-in-Water Pickering Emulsion; 4. Biopolymer-based nanoparticles; 5. Water Treatment; 6. Energy Efficiency & Energy Storage; 7. Active matter/colloids
