Who we are?

We are an interdisciplinary research group with expertise in Materials Science and Engineering with research scholars from both science(Physics and Chemistry) and engineering (Materials, Mechanical, Electrical, and Nanotechnology) backgrounds. In the last ten years, six students completed their Ph.D., and seven are actively working in our group. Further, both PG(M.Tech. and M.Sc.)  and UG (B.Tech.) students carry out research jointly with research scholars in several cutting-edge areas of materials science and technology.

 What we do?

Primarily, our research group works on the nanomanufacturing of various functional materials and addresses some of the fundamental issues in bottom-up fabrication. We have achieved vapor phase growth of aligned CNT forest growth, graphene, monolayer MoS2, monolayer WS2, and intelligent materials such as VO2 that show phase transition. Our research group at IIT Mandi strives to establish world-class expertise in controlling and probing atomistic growth mechanisms to enable large-scale nonmanufacturing of functional materials in 1D nanostructures, 2D materials, and thin films.  In addition, we also manipulate the properties of 2D materials by defect and strain engineering during the growth and post-growth physical processes.

We explore phase change materials/functional oxides for making smarter sensors and memristor devices.

We are fascinated by the growth and defect engineering in atomically thin 2D materials. Large scale manufacturing and mechanical reliability also include our interests for opto-electronic device applications.

Fabrication of micro-supercapacitors for energy storage also falls under our specialty.
