Call for Proposals: 2023-24

Proposals are invited for consideration at the Geospatial Information Science and Engineering (GISE) Hub project funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST). The GISE hub project is an interdisciplinary hub at IIT Bombay with the objective to be a centre of excellence in geospatial data management and applications. The GISE Hub plays an active role in research, development, outreach and consulting, and also acts as a guiding body for other organisations intending to develop expertise. 

The initiatives undertaken by the hub include On Site Research and Development projects, Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) and Open Data (OD) activities, Data for policy projects (D4P), Capacity building program, Educational and Outreach workshops, and Innovation and Entrepreneurship activities. 

As a part of Research and Development projects, GISE hub invites proposals for R&D projects in the following areas: 

1. Agriculture - projects on geospatial information and its uses in landscape and farming. These activities involve sensing, analysing, and communicating geospatial data streams. Further using the data stream for on ground applications. 

2. Hydrosphere - The hydrosphere domain includes Hydrology, Marine, and Meteorology and Oceanography. 

   1. Hydrology: projects seeking technical and institutional solutions to the challenge of describing and exchanging data describing the state and location of water resources, both above and below the ground surface.

   2. Marine: projects using marine data for purposes other than safe navigation, which can be captured loosely under the term Marine Spatial Data Infrastructure (MSDI). 

   3. Meteorology and Oceanography: projects allowing the meteorological community to develop effective interoperability for web services and content across the wider geospatial domain.

The projects can be in either of the three individual domains or interrelated to each other. 

3. Data Infrastructure - This will include geo-applications for operational and delivery. Projects related to developing tools to hold national level data on agriculture, hydrology, or any other domain.

Last date for submission of the proposal is January 31, 2023. The proposals will be vetted by a review committee and the results will be uploaded on the GISE hub website and through mail for the accepted proposals on or before March 31, 2023.
