Fouad Teymour

Johnson Polymer Professor, Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering; Director, Center for Complex Systems and Dynamics
Illinois Institute of Technology

About

Dr. Teymour is Johnson Polymer Professor in the department of Chemical and Biological Engineering and the Director of the Center for Complex Systems and Dynamics at the Illinois Institute of Technology. His research focuses in the areas of polymer reaction engineering and nonlinear dynamics. He oversees the polymer reaction engineering laboratory and has mentored over 30 graduate students.

In the area of polymer reaction engineering his research efforts focus on improving polymer properties and polymerization processes subject to long chain branching and crosslinking through the fundamental understanding gained from the coupling of mathematical modeling and experimental validation.

He has also conducted research in the areas of interfacial polycondensation for microencapsulation and polymer membrane production, polymer applications in fuel cells and most recently in inverse phase miniemulsion polymerization nanoparticle synthesis for drug delivery applications.

He is an active member of the Pritzker Institute of Biomedical Science and Engineering as well as the Engineering Center for Diabetes Research and Education.

Dr. Teymour is a collaborator of gastrointestinal surgeon Dr. Alverdy in the department of surgery at the University of Chicago whose research focuses on host pathogen interactions in the gut and its effect on host health, inflammation, and sepsis, and of Georgia Papavasiliou of the Biomedical Engineering department of Illinois Institute of Technology who focuses on biomaterials, tissue engineering and drug delivery, and Seok Hoon Hong, who focuses on biofilms and protein engineering.
