I write stories.
“Ah, a traveler.”“Welcome.”“Welcome.”A trio of voices croak, from a distance, scattered, but close by and together; whispers in the wind. I walk on, pretending to be unperturbed. I glance ever so slightly around me, peaking behind at the sidewalk and up in the windows of homes towering at my sides. I peer inside the hoods of the passing rickshaws and behind the windows of cars slowly trudging on through this congested alley. I look over at the tong on the other side of the road, at its loud inhabitants, blurred by the smoke of their cigarette and tea. They are minding their own business . . .
